All year you'll be sweating, except maybe during winter, but even then the only time you won't be sweating is at night when the sun's down. Based on my own experience and also my cousins', when I compare it to what I've experienced in the US, it's quite different. Lots of different influences there. The most important thing for most foreigners to do here is beat the heat. But of course not everything about culture is the norms by which the people here live by, also get ready for festivals here and there, try to go to a few, you can learn a lot, but be careful of the heat. Whether or not you speak Tagalog, expect everyone to speak English to you, simply because you're coming from the US. Ordinary everyday Filipinos think it's "fun" to speak English, so be prepared for a lot of pointless conversations that have no purpose other than to give the person speaking to you a chance to have "fun" speaking English.
